OxyContin Maker Fined $630M for Hiding Abuse Risk


The manufacturer of a painkiller1 drug called Oxycontin and three company officials said Thursday that they had lied2 about the safety of the drug. The drug manufacturer called Purdue Pharma admitted falsely telling doctors and patients that the drug was less dangerous than other drugs. A federal court ordered Purdue Pharma to pay a fine3 of 630 million dollars. This case comes days after the same company agreed to pay almost 20million dollars to twenty six states and the District of Colombia for dishonest advertising.
