OxyContin Maker Fined $630M for Hiding Abuse Risk

The manufacturer of a painkiller¹ drug called Oxycontin and three company officials said Thursday that they had lied² about the safety of the drug. The drug manufacturer called Purdue Pharma admitted falsely telling doctors and patients that the drug was less dangerous than other drugs. A federal court ordered Purdue Pharma to pay a fine³ of 630 million dollars. This case comes days after the same company agreed to pay almost 20million dollars to twenty six states and the District of Colombia for dishonest advertising.
